A tower is 173.2m tall. From a point on the ground in line with the foot of the tower, a
rope of length 200m is tied to the top of the tower which makes an angle x with the
horizontal. Find x.

Answer:

The answer will be 60°(nearly).

Step-by-step explanation:

We have given;

Height of tower = 173.2m

rope length = 200m

here, rope is acting like a hypotaneus and the tower as a perpendicular.

So, the distance from the tower base to the point on the ground equals;

(200)^2 = (x)^2 + (173.2)^2;

40000 = x^2 + 29998.24;

x^2 = 10001.76

x = 100 (approx.)

Let the asked angle be θ.

Hence, cosθ = distance between the tower's foot and the point on the ground / length of rope; (since cosθ is given by adjacent side upon hypotaneus)

cos θ = 100/200;

cosθ = 1/2;

cosθ = cos 60°;

Therefore, θ = 60°( approx.)

That's all.
