A town has total population of 50,000. Out of it 28,000 read Hindustan times and 23,000 read Times of India while 4,000 read both the papers. Indicate how many read neither Hindustan times nor Times of India?

Suppose,

Total people = n(X u Y)
People reading Hindustan times =n(X)
People reading Times of India =n(Y)
People reading both papers = n(X n Y)

Substituting the values in,

n(X u Y) =n(X) + n(Y) - n(X n Y)
50000 = 28000 + 23000 -4000

so 3000 people do not read neither of the two papers.
