A toy balloon has a volume of 150ml when it is filled with helium at a temperature of 27°C and a pressure of
750mm of Hg. It rises to an altitude where the temperature falls to -33°C and the pressure falls to 40% of the
original pressure. What is the new volume?

Answer:

300 mL

Explanation:

When all three variables (P,V,T) are given, use the formula :

(P1V1)/T1=(P2V2)/T2

For using this formula unit conversion is not that necessary, but since there is a negative temperature, it should be converted to kelvin.

But whenever the formula PV=nRT is used all quantities must be converted into SI unit when R= 8.314 Jmol-1K-1. But if pressure is in atm and volume is in litre then this formula can be used if the value of R=0.082Latm.mol-1K-1

Excuse me if I have done any mistake in calculations.
