The correct answer is b . Rs 2.56

The Marked price = rs 400

Case I

Initial discount = 8% = 8*400/100 = 32

so price after discount = 400-32 = 368

Again a discount of 8% on rs 368 is announced,

Hence discount = 8 * 368 /100

= 29.44

So net selling price after discount = 368 - 29.44

= 338.56

Case II

Total discount offered = 16 %

= 16*400/100

=64

So net selling price = 400 -64 = 336

Hence difference in both the selling price = 338.56 - 336

= Rs 2.56

Hence the shopkeeper will loose Rs 2.56 (option b) for a single discount of 16%.

Marked Price = Rs 400

Price after 1st discount:

Discount = 8% of Rs 400 = 0.08 x 400 = Rs 32

Price after discount = 400 - 32 = Rs 368

Price after 2nd discount:

Discount = 8% of Rs 368 = 0.08 x 368 = Rs 29.44

Price after discount = 368 - 29.44 = Rs 338. 56

Price at single 16% discount:

Discount = 16% of Rs 400 = 0.16 x 400 = Rs 64

Price after discount = 400 - 64 = Rs 336

Find the Difference:

Difference = 338. 56 - 336 = Rs 2.56

Answer: (b) His losses Rs 2.56
