Answer:

5/12

Step-by-step explanation:

If x/y is the fraction

(x-1)/y = 1/3

3x-3=y ............(1)

x/(y+8) = 1/4

4x=y+8 ...........(2)

Add 8 to both sides in (1)

3x+5=y+8

4x=y+8

4x=3x+5

x=5

y=12

Answer:

let x be numerator and y be denominator

the fraction formed is x/y

by first condition

(x-1) /y=1/3

3(x+1)=y

y=3x+3......1

by second condition

x/y+8=1/4

4x=8+y

4x-y,=8

from 1

4x-(3x+3)=8

4x-3x-3=8

x=8+3

x=11

put x=11 in eq1

y=3(11)+3

=33+3

y=36

x=11and y=36 is the solution
