Given :-

A trader buys apples at 7 apples for $20 and sells them at 40% profit.

To find :-

Number of apples he sold for $20

Solution :-

Let the cost of one apple be $ X

The cost of 7 apples = 7×X = $7X

According to the given problem

The cost of 7 apples = $20

Therefore, 7X = 20

=> X = 20/7

The cost of each apple = $ (20/7)

Profit percentage on it = 40%

We know that

Selling Price = [(100+g)/100]×CP

=> SP = [(100+40)/100]×(20/7)

=> SP = (140/100)×(20/7)

=> SP = (140×20)/(100×7)

=> SP = 2800/700

=> SP = 4

The selling price of each apple = $ 4

The number of apples sold for $ 20

= 20/4

= 5

Answer :-

The number of apples he sold for $20 is 5

Used formulae:-

Selling Price = [(100+g)/100]×CP
