The total number of oranges bought by the trader = 31

Let the total number of oranges bought by the trader be x.

Total price paid for all the oranges (cost price) = 50 × x = 50x

Given that 6 of the oranges bought by the trader are rotten , so the number of oranges left = (x - 6)

Total selling price of the oranges = (x - 6) × 80

Profit = 450

=> Profit = selling price - cost price

=> 450 = 80(x-6) - 50x

=> 450 = 80x - 480 -50x

=> 930 = 30x

=> x = 31

The total number of oranges bought by the trader = 31
