Let the buying price of 1 kg is x.
Total cost price = 400x
If he sells at a loss of 12%
The selling price :
0.88 × 400x = 352x
Let the quantity sold at 36% profit be y kgs then the quantity of the ones sold at a loss of 24% will be 400 - y
The buying price of y is :
xy
The selling price = 1.36xy
The buying price of 400 - y is :
400x - xy
The selling price is :
0.76(400x - xy) = 304x30x - 0.76xy
The total price at which the quantities were sold is :
xy + 304x - 0.76xy = 0.24xy + 304
0.24xy + 304x = 352x
0.24xy = 352x - 304x
0.24xy = 48x
y = 48x/0.24x
y = 200 kgs
The ones sold at a loss of 24% is :
400 - 200 = 200kgs
