Answer :

  • 36 kg is the quantity sold at 23% profit

Given that :

  • A trader has 63 kg of pulses part of which he sells at 9 percent profit and rest at 23 percent profit
  • He gains 17 percent on the whole

To find :

  • What is the quantity sold at 23 percent profit

Solution :

  • Let the amount of pulses sold at 9 % profit be x
  • Let the amount of pulses rest at 23 % profit be 63 - x

According to question Given that, he gains 17 % on the whole so ,

➨ 9% of x + 23% of (63 - x) = 17% of 63

➨ 9x/100 + 23(63 - x)/100 = 10.71

➨ 9x + 1449 - 23x = 1071

➨ - 14x + 1449 = 1071

➨ 14x = 1449 - 1071

➨ 14x = 378

➨ x = 378/14

➨ x = 27

Now , Finding the quantity sold at 23% profit :

➨ 63 - x

➨ 63 - 27

➨ 36 kg

Hence , 36 kg is the quantity sold at 23% profit.

Verification :

➨ 9x + 1449 - 23x = 1071

➨ 9(27) + 1449 - 23(27) = 1071

➨ 243 + 1449 - 621 = 1071

➨ 243 + 828 = 1071

➨ 1071 = 1071
