Given,

Profit from selling caps at the selling price of Rs 50 is Rs 500 and Loss from selling the caps at Rs 25 is Rs 125.

To Find,

Number of Caps the trader has.

Solution,

Let's say the cost price of each Cap = c and Let the number of caps the trader has = x

Now the actual cost of x caps at the cost price of c = cx

If the traders sell the caps at Rs 50 ⇒ The total amount he receives = 50x

The profit = 50x - cx = 500 ------ A

If the traders sell the caps at Rs 25 ⇒ The total amount he received = 25x

The loss = cx - 25x = 125 -------- B

A + B ⇒ (50x - cx) + (cx - 25x) = 500 + 125

25x = 625

x = 25

Henceforth the number of caps the trader has is 25.
