A trader has two types of cloth, cotton and silk. Cotton cloth is 7 metre less than three times the silk. If he has 193 metres total cloth. Prepare the equation to find out the length of each type of cloth. Prepare equation for the given situation.

and silk cloth be y
so according to first situation--
x+7=3y----(1)
According to other situation.
x+y=193---(2)
x=193-y
put value of x in eq.(1)
193-y+7=3y
4y=200

Solution :
Let length of the silk cloth = x m
Length of the cotton cloth
= 7 m less than 3 times the silk
= ( 3x - 7 ) m
Total cloth = 193 m ( given )
=> x + 3x - 7 = 193
=> 4x - 7 = 193
=> 4x = 193 + 7
=> 4x = 200
=> x = 200/4
=> x = 50
Therefore ,
Length of the silk cloth = x = 50m
Lenth of they cotton cloth
= 3x - 7
= 3 × 50 - 7
= 150 - 7
= 143 m
