Question :

a trader offers two successive discounts of 30% and 10% .if he sells an article for ₹108 , then find the marked price of the article

Answer :

Its given that the trader gives 2 successive discount  which means one after one .Then ,

( NOTE : Its given that 2 successive discount hence the 1st discount of the article must be calculated in 2nd discount )

PRICE = S.P + Discount

S.P = PRICE - Discount

108 = PRICE - 0.3

Let's have, the value of money be x

108 = x - 0.3x

108 = 0.7x ..... (1)

Now, price after 2nd discount

S.P =   0.7x - (10% of 108 )

S.P = 0.7x - ( 0.1  x  108)

S.P = 0.7x - (0.1  x 0.7) ( since , 108 = 0.7x )

S.P =  0.7x - 0.07x

S.P = 0.63x

108 = 0.63x

x = 108 / 0.63

x = 171.40
