Answer:

His profit percent is 42.85 %

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Trader sold 40 erasers

            Profit = selling price of 12

            Profit % = ?

Solution : Let 'c' be the cost price of one eraser

              then cost price of 40 eraser = 40c

             Let 's' be the selling price of one eraser

             then selling price of 40 eraser = 40s

Given, Profit = selling price of 12

                    = 12s ----------------1

We know Profit = (selling price - cost price)

                          = 40s-40c ---------------2

equating 1 & 2

12s = 40s -40c

40c = 28s

s = 40c/28

  =10c/7

% profit = (selling price - cost price)/cost price x 100

            = (10c/7 - c)/c X100

           = 3/7 x 100

           = 42.86 %
