Given :-

A train 100 m long crosses a bridge of length 100 m in 6 seconds.

To Find :-

Time taken by the same train to cross another bridge of 200 m.

Solution :-

While crossing the bridge, the train would also have to cover another distance of its own length in order to cross the bridge. So,

  • Total distance = 100 + 100 = 200 m
  • Time taken = 6 seconds

We have the distance and time, so let's find the speed of the train,

⇒ Distance = Speed × Time

⇒ 200 = Speed × 6

Speed = 100/3 m/s

Now, The distance of bridge is given to be 200 m, So the total distance covered by the train will be 200 + 100 = 300 m, and the speed we just found is 100/3 m/s

Time taken by the train can be calculated as,

⇒ Distance = Speed × Time

⇒ 300 = 100/3 × Time

⇒ 900 / 100 = Time

Time = 9 seconds

Hence, The time taken by the same train to cross the bridge of 200 m is 9 seconds.
