The speed of the first train is v_{1}=40\ m/s

The length of the second train is b=200 m

The speed of the second train is v_{2}=30\ m/s

As both the trains are moving in same direction

So the resultant velocity will be

v=v_{1}-v_{2}\\v=40-30\\v=10\ m/s

The total distance for the train to travel to overtake the second train is

d=a+b=100+200=300 m

The time taken t by the first train to overtake is

t=\dfrac{d}{v}\\t=\dfrac{300}{10}\\t=30\ s
