Answer:

Let the speed of the train be x km/hr

Length of the train = 150m=

1000

150

=

20

3

km

and time taken to cross the man = 10 seconds =

60×60

10

Relative speed = (x−2) kmph

(Both are moving in same direction)

We know that,

Relativespeed

Lengthofthetrain

 = Time taken to cross the man

Relative speed =

20×1

3×360

x−2=

20×1

3×360

x=54+2=56 kmph

Hence, speed of train is 56 kmph.

Given : A train 150 m long travels at 15 m/s.

To Find : How long does it take to pa ss a man running at 10 m/s in the same direction

Solution:

Let say  Time taken = t secs

Train speed = 15 m/s

Distance covered by train = 15t  m

Man speed = 15 m/s

Distance covered by Man = 10t  m

Distance to be covered by train = Distance covered by train + length of Train

=> 15t = 10t + 150

=> 5t = 150

=> t = 30

Hence Time taken by train to pa ss the man is 30 secs

Another method:

Effective speed = 15 - 10 = 5 m/s

Distance to be covered = 150m

Time Taken = 150/5 = 30 secs
