A train accelerated from 10km/hr to 40km/hr in 2 minutes. How much distance does it cover in this period? Assume that the tracks are straight?

initial velocity = 10km/hr = 10 × 18/5 = 36 m/s

final velocity = 40 km/hr = 40 × 18/5 = 136 m/s .

acceleration = v - u /t

= 136 - 36/2

= 100/2

= 50 m/s^2

s = ut + 1/2at^2

= 36 × 2 + 1/2 × 50 × 4

= 72 + 100

= 172 m
