Given

  • A train covered a distance of 850 m in 40 seconds.

____________________________

To Find

  • The distance it covers in 1 hour.

____________________________

Solution

We'll be using the unitary method to find the answer.

In this method, we find the value of 1 unit and use it to find the value of whatever the question asks us for.

Distance covered in 40 seconds → 850 m

Distance covered in 1 second → 850 ÷ 40 = 21.25 m

1 hour = 60 minutes = 60 × 60 = 3600 seconds.

[We converted the hour into seconds because we shall make sure the units we use are the same like if it is cm then the answer shall be calculated under cm itself]

Distance covered in 3600 second (1 hour) → 21.25 × 3600 = 76500 m

1000 m = 1 km

76500 m = 76.5 km

∴ The train will cover 76.5 km in 1 hour.

Question :

A train covered a distance of 850 m in 40 seconds

Calculate the distance it covers in 1 hours?

Explanation :

It is given that:

train covered a distance of 850m in 40 seconds.

To find :

The distance train will cover in a hour ?

Solution :

In this question we'll gonna use unitary method

As we know ,

Distance covered in 40 seconds = 850m

Distance covered in 1 sec ,

 =  \frac{850m}{40}  = 21.25

∴ Distance covered in 3600 seconds (1 hour) = 21.25×3600 = 76500m .

In short ,

765000m = 76.5 km.

  • ∴ 76.5km has been covered by a train in one hour

\dagger \underline{\large \: \: {\frak{ About \:  unitary  \: method :  }}}

  • In short, a technique for solving a problem but first finding their single unit first and then finding the neccesary value is known as unitary method.
  • In other words ,the unitary method is used to find the value of a single unit from a given multiple
  • In these types of question where there is km and m we need to convert the hours into seconds the units we are using should be same and then only the answer will be calculated .
  • In this method first we find single unit and then find the answer whatever the questions asks us.
