Answer:
Given :-
- A train covers a distance between station a and station b in 45 minutes. If the speed of the train is reduced by 5 km/hr, then the same distance is covered in 48 minutes.
Find out :-
- The distance between the stations a and b.
Solution :-
Let, the distance between a and b be x km.
We know that,
★ Speed = Distance/Time ★
ATP,
★ x/(45/60) km/hr
➞ 60x/45 km/hr
➞ 4x/3 km/hr
The speed of the train is reduced by 5 km/hr.
New speed,
★ (4x/3) - 5
➞ (4x - 15)/3 km/hr
New time,
★ 45 minutes + 3 minutes
➞ 48 minutes
ATP,
★ 48/60 × (4x - 15)/3 = x
➙ 16 (4x - 15) = 60x
➙ 4(4x - 15) = 15x
➙ 16x - 60 = 15x
➙ 16x - 15x = 60
➙ x = 60
∴ The distance between the stations a and b 60 km.
