Answer:

(221 × 45 ) / 51

9945 / 51 = 195 minutes .

i have used unitary method because the train covers 51 km in 45 min so it will take more time to cover 221 km . So more is 221

Hope it helps.

Given :-

A train covers a distance of 51 km in 45 minutes.

To Find :-

How long will it take to cover 221 km?

Analysis :-

First we've to find the speed of the train by it's respective formula.

The total time taken would be Total distance ÷ Distance/Time

Next convert the minutes to hours.

Solution :-

We know that,

  • d = Distance
  • s = Speed
  • t = Time

By the formula,

\underline{\boxed{\sf Speed= \dfrac{Total \ distance}{Total \ time} }}

Given that,

A train covers a distance of 51 km in 45 minutes.

Substituting their values,

\sf Speed=\dfrac{55}{45}

Speed = 55/45 km

Then,

∴ Total time it will taken to cover 221 km = 221 ÷ 51/45

Since it's a division with fractions, we have multiply by changing the fractions to reciprocal.

= 221 × 45/51

= 195 minutes

Since the answer is in minutes,

1 hour = 60 minutes

By converting,

\sf \dfrac{195}{60} =3.25

i.e. 3 hours 15 minutes

Therefore, it takes 3 hours 15 minutes to cover 221 km.
