Given :

▪ A train covers first half of the total distance at a speed of 30m/s and second half of the total distance at a speed of 40m/s.

To Find :

▪ Average speed of train fot entire journey.

Concept :

☞ Average speed is defined as the ratio of total distance travelled to the total time taken.

☞ It is a scalar quantity.

☞ It has only magnitude.

☞ SI unit : m/s

✴ When particle covers first half of the total distance at a speed of V1 and final half of the total distance at a speed of V2, then average speed of particle is given by

Vav = 2V1V2/(V1+V2)

Calculation :

→ Vav = 2V1V2/(V1+V2)

→ Vav = 2×30×40/(30+40)

→ Vav = 2400/70

Vav = 34.28m/s

YOUR QUESTION :

A train covers half of its journey with a speed of 30m/per second and other half of journey with speed of 40m/ per second . Calculate average speed for entire journey.

YOUR ANSWER :

Given :

  • A train covers half of its journey with a speed of 30m/s and other half of journey with speed of 40m/s.

To Find :

  • Average speed of train fot entire journey.

Concept :

✔ Average speed is defined as the ratio of total distance travelled to the total time taken.

Vav = 2V1V2/(V1+V2)

Calculation :

=> Vav = 2V1V2/(V1+V2)

=> Vav = 2×30×40/(30+40)

=> Vav = 2400/70

=> Vav = 34.28m/s.

ANSWER : 34.28m/s.
