A train covers the first 160 kilometre of a journey at 40 km per hour, the next 180 km at 45 km per hour and the last 200 km at 50 km per hour . Find ( ¡ ) the total time it takes to complete the journey and ( ¡¡ ) the average speed of train during the whole journey.​

speed= distance/time

(i) first 160 kms at 40 kms/hour time taken is 160/40 = 4 hours

 similarly, time taken for 180 kms = 180/45= 4 hours

      and for 200 kms = 200/50 = 4 hours

so, total time taken in journey is 4+4+4 = 12 hours

(ii) average speed is ,   total distance / total time taken

which is 160+180+200 / 4+4+4 = 540/ 12 = 45 kms/ hour

so, the avg. speed was 45kms/hour.
