Answer:

The average speed of the train is 40 km/hr.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A train covers the first half of the distance between two stations at a speed of 40 km/h and the other half at 60 km/h.

To find : Its average speed ?

Solution :

Let the d be half distance covered

Let s be the average speed

We know, \text{Time}=\frac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Speed}}

According to question,

\frac{d}{40}+\frac{d}{60}=\frac{2d}{s}

\frac{1}{40}+\frac{1}{60}=\frac{2}{s}

\frac{60+40}{40\times 60}=\frac{2}{s}

\frac{100}{2400}=\frac{2}{s}

s=\frac{2\times 2400}{100}

s=48

Therefore, The average speed of the train is 40 km/hr.
