let the actual length of train be some value X

the train has to cross distance equal to its own length to cross the pole ie. x

whereas to cross a bridge,it needs to travel distance equal to it length PLUS length of bridge ie.264+x

As per the question

x/v=8

=> v=x/8....(i)

Also,

(x+264)/v=20

Putting value of v from eq. i

x+264=20x/8

=>8x+264×8=20x

=>264x8=12x

=>x=176 m
