A train crosses a bridge in 20s. If the bridge is 180m long then find the length of the train.

It took me a long time to come with the answer


Let the length of the train be x metres

Given, bridge length = 180m
t = 20s
SPEED = D/t
= 180/20
= 9 m/s

This statement means that in 1 second the train moves 9m. This it would take 9 times it length to pass the bridge.

Thus 9x = 180
=> x = 20m

Thus the length of the train is 20m
