Given data :

  • A train has to cover 360 km in 6 hours.
  • Train travels at a speed of 55 km/hr for the first four hours.

To find : Speed of the train to reach the destination in the desired time ?

Solution :

Now, according to given,

{Train travels at a speed of 55 km/hr for the first four hours.}

So, speed of train = 55 km/hr

& time taken by train = 4 hour

Now, to find distance covered by train

→ speed = distance/time

→ 55 = distance/4

→ distance = 55 * 4

→ distance = 220 km

So, train covered 220 km in 4 hour with speed 55 km/hr.

According to given, {A train has to cover 360 km in 6 hours.}

Now, we know that train already covered 220 km in 4 hour. Hence,

→ Train need to cover distance = 360 - 220

→ Train need to cover distance = 140 km

and

→ Train has time to cover 140 km = 6 - 4

→ Train has time to cover 140 km = 2 hour

So, we know that train need to cover 140 km in 2 hour.

Now, to find speed of the train to reach the destination in the desired time.

→ speed = distance/time

→ speed = 140/2

→ speed = 70 km/hr

Answer : Hence, speed of the train to reach the destination in the desired time is 70 km/hr.

:\Longrightarrow A train has to cover 360 km in 6 hours.

:\Longrightarrow Train travels at a speed of 55km/h for the first four hours.

\text{\huge\underline{\green{To\ find:-}}}

:\Longrightarrow Speed of the train to reach the destination in the desired time.

\text{\huge\underline{\purple{Solution:-}}}

\text{\large\underline{\bf{First\ phase:-}}}

:\Longrightarrow 4 hours taken by car and distance covered = S1 = speed × time

:\Longrightarrow S1 = 55 × 4 = 220km.

:\Longrightarrow This implies that in 4 hours the distance covered is 220km.

\text{\large\underline{\bf{Second\ phase:-}}}

:\Longrightarrow Desired:- At what speed car should travel to cover a remaining distance in remaining time.

:\Longrightarrow Remaining distance to cover = S2 = 360 - 220 = 140km.

:\Longrightarrow Remaining time for travelling = t2 = 6 - 4 = 2 hours.

:\Longrightarrow Distance covered = speed × time \Longrightarrow

:\Longrightarrow Speed =  \mathrm{\dfrac{Distance\ covered}{Time}}

:\Longrightarrow Speed =  \mathrm{\dfrac{140}{2}}

:\Longrightarrow = 70km/h.

\text{\large\underline{\bf{Desired\ speed:-}}} = 70km/h.
