Total Distance = (360 + 140)

                       = 500 m.

Speed = 45 km/hr

          = 45 * (5/18)

          = 25/2 m/sec

∴ Time = Distance/Speed

            = (500/25/2)

           = 40 sec

Hope it helps!

GIVEN :

  • the length of the train = 360m long
  • Running at the speed = 45km/hr

TO FIND :

  • The time taken to cross a 140m long bridge =?

STEP - BY - STEP EXPLANATION :

=> Speed = 45km/hr =\frac{45*1000}{3600}m/s

=> \frac{25}{2} m/s =12.5 m/s

To cross the bridge, the train will have to cover

=> \frac{12.5}{1} =\frac{500}{x} \\

=> x = \frac{500}{12.5}

=> x = 40

therefore, train will take 40 seconds to cross 140 m long bridge
