A train is moving east at a speed of 5 ms-l. A bullet
fired westwards with a velocity of 10 ms'crosses the
train in 8 s. What is the length of the train ?

velocity of train = 5m/s (considering east as +ve direction)

velocity of bullet = -10m/s (as it Is going westwards)

relative velocity of bullet with respect to train = 5-(-10)= 15m/s

length of train = relative velocity × time taken

=> 15×8

=> 120m

As the train and the bullet both are moving in opposite direction so the relative velocity Will be

=(10+5)m/s=15m/s

therefore the length of the train=(15×8)m=120m

answer is the length of the train is 120meter
