A train is traveling at a speed of 90 km /h brakes are applied so as to produce a uniform acceleration of 0.5m/s-2.find how far the train will go before it is brought to rest.

=> Speed of the train before application of brakes = 25 m/s

Given that the retardation( -ve acceleration) of the train = -0.5 m/s

here -ve symbol indicates acceleration in opposite direction.

Now, From

v² - u² = 2as

=> 0 - (25)² = 2(-0.5)s

=> -625/-0.5 = 2s

=> 1250 = 2s

=> s = 625 m
