Question:

A train is travelling west to east at average speed of 120 km/hr. How far  does this train travel in 60 seconds?

Solution:

Average speed of train= 120 km/hr= 120× 5/18= 600/18 m/s (km/hr×5/18=m/s)

Time taken for the train to travel from west to east= 60 seconds

Therefore, distance covered by the train=?

Speed= Distance÷Time

Distance= Speed×Time

              = 600×60÷18

              = 36000÷ 18

              = 2000 m

               (1000 m=1 km)

              = 2 km

Answer: Distance covered by the train from west to east with average speed of 120 km/hr in 60 seconds is 2 km.
