Solution :

Given,

  • Speed of train in the first 10m = 40m/s
  • Speed of train in the next 5m = 30m/s

To find,

  • Average speed = ?

Firstly finding the total time

Total time = t1 + t2

Finding t1 & t2 using time = distance/speed

→ t1 = 10/40 = 1/4 = 0.25 s

→ t2 = 5/30 = 1/6 = 0.16 s

Now finding average speed

Average speed = total distance/total time

  • Total distance = 10 + 5 = 15m
  • Total time = 0.25 + 0.16 = 0.41 s

Average speed = 15/0.41

Average speed = 36.5

Hence , average of train = 36.5 m/s
