Given :

distance covered by the train, d = 120m

time taken, t = 2s.

To find :

(i) the speed of the train

(ii) the time it will take to cover 240 m.

Solution :

(i) we know that,

The distance travelled by a body per unit time is called speed.

Speed is scalar quantity.

{ \leadsto{ \bf{Speed = \dfrac{distance}{time}}}}

{ \leadsto{ \bf{Speed = \dfrac{120 \: m}{2 \: s}}}}

{ \leadsto{ \bf{Speed = 4 \: m/s}}}

thus, speed of the train is 4m/s.

(ii) the time it will take to cover 240 m is

{ \leadsto{ \bf{time = \dfrac{distance}{speed}}}}

{ \leadsto{ \bf{time = \dfrac{240}{60}}}}

{ \leadsto{ \bf{time = 4 \: sec}}}

thus,the time it will take to cover 240 m is 4sec.

Remember !

SI unit of speed is meter per second (m/s).
