A train runs 25 miles at a speed of 30 mph, another 50 miles at a speed of 40 mph, then due to repairs of the track travels for 6 minutes at a speed of 10 mph and finally covers the remaining distance of 24 miles a speed of 24 mph. What is the average speed in miles per hour?

(1) Given that Train A covers 25 miles at a speed of 30 mph.

So, 1 mile will be covered in (60/30) minutes.

Then, 25 miles will be covered in (60/30) * 25 = 50 minutes.

Hence, Speed = 30 , Time = 50.

Then Speed * Time = 1500

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(2) Given that Train B covers 50 miles at a speed of 40 mph.

1 miles will be covered in (60/40) minutes.

So, 50 miles will be covered in (60/40) * 50 = 75 minutes

Hence, Speed = 40, Time = 75.

Then, Speed * Time = 40 * 75 = 3000

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(3) Given that train C travels at a speed of 10 mph for 6 minutes.

Then, Speed * Time = 10 * 6 = 60.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(4) Given that it finally covers a distance of 24 miles at a speed of 24 mph.

So, 1 mile will be covered in (60/24) minutes.

Then, 24 miles will be covered in (60/24) * 24 = 60 minutes.

Hence , Speed = 24, Time = 60

Then, Speed * Time = 24 * 60 = 1440

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now,

Total time taken = 50 + 75 + 6 + 60 = 191

Overall result = 1500 + 3000 + 60 + 1440 = 6000.

Therefore, The average speed in miles per hour = 6000/191 = 31.4 m.p.h.

Hope this helps!
