Correct Question :- A train runs from Lausanne to Zurich at 100 km/hour without any stops and another one from Zurich to Lausanne at 80 km/hour . What is the distance between the trains 15 minutes after they meet each other ?

Solution :-

The distance between the trains 15 minutes after meeting will be distance covered by both trains in 15 minutes in opposite direction .

so,

→ Speed of train runs from Lausanne to Zurich = 100 km/h

→ Time = 15 minutes = 15/60 = 1/4 hours .

then,

→ Distance covered = S * T = 100 * (1/4) = 25 km .

and,

→ Speed of train runs from Zurich to Lausanne = 80 km/h

→ Time = 15 minutes = 15/60 = 1/4 hours .

then,

→ Distance covered = S * T = 80 * (1/4) = 20 km .

therefore,

→ Required distance between them = 25 + 20 = 45 km (Ans.)

Or,

→ Usual speed of both trains in opposite direction = S1 + S2 = 100 + 80 = 180 km/h .

then,

→ Distance covered by them in 15 minutes = 180 * (1/4) = 45 km (Ans.)
