Given

Time to reach station B from station A is 3.5 hours.

Time to reach station A from station B is 4.5 hours.

Distance b/w two stations is 300 km.

To find

Average speed & average velocity of train

Solution

Finding average speed of train :

Here time to reach station from A to B & from station B to station A are 3.5 hours & 4.5 hours respectively.

⟼ Total time = 3.5 + 4.5

Total time = 8 hours.

Again, distance b/w two stations is 300 km.Here, train travels from station A to B & station B to A, so train will travel the same root twice.

➝ Total distance = 300 + 300

Total distance = 600 km.

We know that,

➥ Average speed = Total distance/Total time.

Putting values :

⇰ Average speed = 600 km/8 h

Average speed = 75 km/h

Therefore,

Average speed of train = 75 km/h

Finding average velocity of train :

Here, the train travels from station A to station B & comes back to station A from station B.

As the train comes back to its initial point, so displacement of train = 0

We know that,

➥ Average velocity = Total displacement/Total time

Putting values :

⟼ Average velocity = 0/(4.5 + 3.5)

⟼ Average velocity = 0/8

Average velocity = 0 km/h

Therefore,

Average velocity of train = 0 km/h
