Let, Length of the train be ‘x’ metres and it's speed by y m/s.

We know that,

Distance = Speed × time

➨ time = distance/speed

➨ x/y = 8

➨ y = x/8 ----(i)

Also,

➨ x+264/y = 16

➨ x+264 = 16y -----(ii)

Put the value of y from equation (i) to (ii)

➨ x+264 = 16 × x/8

➨ 8(x+264) = 16x

➨ 8x + 2112 = 16x

➨ 8x = 2112

➨ x = 2112/8

➨ x = 264

Hence, The length of train is 264 metres.
