|•|Let the speed of the train be x km/h.

Time taken to travel 480 km at this speed = Distance/speed = 480/x hr.

If the speed = (x-8), time taken to cover 480 km should be 480/(x-8) hr.

According to question,

480/x +3 = 480/(x-8).

On solving this we get x = 40 or, x = -32.

Ignoring the negative value, the speed of the car is 40 km/h.
