A train travels a distance with a speed of 40 km/h and returns with a speed of 60 km/h. Calculate the average speed of the train.

Given:-

Speed in the train in the first journey=40km/h

Speed of the train in the return journey=60km/h

Let the two speeds be v1 and v2 respectively.

To find:-

Average speed of the train.

Solution:-

We can see here that the distance teavelled by the train is same in both cases.

Hence,when distance travelled by a body is same,then average speed is----

2v1v2/v1+v2

=>2×40×60/40+60

=>4800/100

=>48km/h

Thus,average speed of the train is 48km/h.
