Explanation:

GIVEN:-

A train travels for 8 hours.

Total distance covered by first half is 30km

Total distance covered by second half is 50km

TO FIND:-

The total distance covered by the train in both the half.

UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT:-

Let the whole distance be 2x km

So, The half of the distance will be x km

By applying Distance formula we will get the distance of the both of half.

REQUIRED ANSWER:-

For First half,

Distance = Speed × Time

Substituting,

Time taken = Distance ÷ Speed

Time taken = ×/30 hours

For Second half,

Distance = Speed × Time

Substituting,

Time taken = Distance ÷ Speed

Time taken = x/50 hours

So, For finding the value of both the halfs we have to,

Time taken = 8hours

x/30 + x/50 = 8

4x/75 = 8

4x = 600

x = 150

We got the value of x for both the halfs.

Now we have to find the total distance covered by the train,

Total distance = 2x

= 150 × 2

= 300

Therefore, The total distance covered by train is 300km.
