a train travels the first 15 kilometre at a uniform speed of 30 km per hour the next 75 km at a uniform speed of 50 kilometre per hour in the last 10 kilometre at a uniform speed of 20 km per hour calculate the average speed for the entire train journey.

Case 1

Time = D/S = 15/30 = 1/2hr

Case 2

Time= D/S = 75/50 = 3/2hr

Case 3

Time = D/S = 10/20 = 1/2hr

Therefore ; Total time = 1/2 +1/2 + 3/2

= 5/2hr

Total distance = 100 km

Average speed = T.distance / T.time

= 100 ÷ 5/2

=40km/hr
