just say that it takes time="t" hrs to reach its destination while moving at an avg speed of 40kmph. therefore distance= 40t. now, 15 min = 1/4 hr. therefore you get distance= 35(t+1/4) = 35t + 35/4. hence 40t = 35t+35/4 => 5t = 35/4 => t = 7/4 hrs. so distance = 40t = 40*7/4 = 70 km.
