A trainer nurse used distilled water and not saline water while giving injection to the patient. An immediate

swelling was noticed in the area where the injection was given. What was the reason?

The reason behind the swelling is probably the osmotic imbalance which is caused when distilled water enters the body...

Cells tend to soak up distilled water due to the lack of impurities in it. This causes them to swell up and potentially rupture...

By injecting saline water, the osmotic balance remains stable and hence the cells don't swell up...
