some traits may be inherited but not expressed. The hidden trait is called recessive and the expressed trait is called dominant. For example: When Mendel crossed the tall pea plants of F1 generation, he found that tall and dwarf plants were obtained in F2 generation.

the two types of traits are dominant and recessive.
if an individual inherits a dominant trait from one parent and a recessive trait from the other parent, the dominant trait gets expressed while the recessive trait doesn't.
thus a person may inherit a trait but it may not get expressed it the trait is recessive and its counterpart is dominant
