Transformer cannot be used to set up DC voltage because transformer is used transform the high voltage current not to Set up DC voltage .DC voltage is set up by adapter not transformer.

when a DC scource is applied across the primary of the transformer,the current in the primary coil remains constant.Hence there is no change in the magnetic flux linked with secondary.therefor the voltage across the secondary coil is zero.thus a transformer cannot be stepup DC voltage...
