This shows that the monocot stem can only be stained with saffron in for the layers of cell below the epidermis.

Explanation:

  • the epidermis is the layer of the cell that surrounds the dermis of the the stem in case of monocot stem.
  • However it cannot be stained by saffranin. Only the layers of cell which are present below the  epidermis can be stained by using this particular stain. This is because of the chemical composition of the cytoplasm that is present in the cells of the epidermis.
