A tree increases annually by 1/8 th of its height. by how much will it increase after 2 1/2 yearly

Present height h=64 cm

Let growth g=1/8=0.125

Height after 1st year = 64+ (64*1/8)=72 cm

Height after 2nd year = 72+(72*1/8)=81 cm

Generalised formula ,

Height after n years = h(1+g)^n

Height after 2 years = 64(1+1/8)^2 =64(1.125)^2 =64(1.265625) =81 cm

As the height of tree increase by 1/8 annually then the height increased in

2 1/2 yrs would be 

= 2 1/2 × 1/8

= 2.5 × 1/8

= 25/10 × 1/8 

= 25/10 × 1/8

= 25/80

= 5/16 is the height increased in 2 1/2 yrs
