Its top touches the ground at a distance of 12m from the base of the tree.

Original height of tree= 5m+ broken part of tree.

To Find the length of broken part:-

Applying pythagoras theorem:-

H²=P²+B²

=>H²=5²+12²

=>H²=25+144

=>H²=169

=>H=√169

=>H=13

So the length of broken part of the tree is 13m.

Hence the original height of tree =5+13=18m
