Answer: 24\sqrt{3} + 36 m.

Step-by-step explanation: sin 60 = \sqrt{3}/2

Also, sin = opposite side/hypotenuse

As the tree forms a right angle with the ground, the ratio of it's new height to the part broken off the tree would be = sin 60.

Let the new height be x.

So, x/(12 - x) = opp. side/ hypotenuse = sin 60 = \sqrt{3}/2

So, 2x = 12\sqrt{3} -

=) (2 - \sqrt{3}) x  = 12

And x = 12\sqrt{3} / 2 -

= 12\sqrt{3} (2 +

= 24\sqrt{3} + 36 m.
