Step-by-step explanation:

Given that the tree of height 4.5 m broken in three pieces, it means that the total length of the tree is 4.5 m. Given that the ratio of the broken parts is 2 : 3 : 4.

As the ratio of lengths of broken parts is given, lengths can not be 2 m , 3 m and 4 m respectively because there is something common between them. Let the common thing be x.

Now,

Let the lengths of broken parts of the tree are 2x , 3x and 4x.

As broken pieces are the parts of tree, sum of length of broken will equal to the total height of the tree i.e. 4.5 m.

Sum of lengths of broken parts = total height of the tree.

2x + 3x + 4x = 4.5 m.

9x = 4.5 m

x = ( 4 . 5 ) / 9 m

x = 0.5 m

Therefore,

Lengths of broken parts ⇒ 2x = 2( 0.5 m ) = 1m

                                         ⇒ 3x = 3( 0.5 m ) = 1.5 m

                                         ⇒ 4x = 4( 0.5 m ) = 2 m

Length of each part is 1 m , 1.5 m and 2 m.
