In order to calculate the population we must remember that the population rises to three times the previous thus, if the original population was 100 then next month the population would increase by three times.

So population after 4 months is going to be 100 (original population) times 3 times 4.

Thus it should read as follows 100*3*4

The options for this question are missing: Following are the options:

a) 100*4^3

b) 100*3^4

c) 100*3*4

d) (100^3)^4

Answer: b) 100*3^4

first month : 100*(3^1) = 300

second month : 300*3 = 100*(3^2) = 900

third month : 900*3 = 100*(3^3) = 2700

fourth month : 2700*3 = 100*(3^4) = 8100
